Remember me?
So around 6 weeks ago I went on a little creative sabbatical as I found it pretty stressful to concentrate on finishing my master’s thesis while also finding the time to be creative and write my newsletter. While I love researching and creating content, my brain also applauded me for deciding to take a break.
So, now that my master’s is all wrapped up and I’ve had 2 weeks to do nothing but chill out and recoup, I am starting to get that exciting niggling feeling to create again and with a lot more time on my hands, I can’t wait to get stuck in with some new work. I’ve been freelancing for many years now, but this is the first time in my life that I have no other side commitments. This means I can start exploring more and focusing on client work and content creation that matters to me.
What’s on the horizon
During my time off, I’ve been doing some thinking (just a little in between doing nothing) with regards to what work I love doing and why I want to do it and last week I had a little ‘ah-ha’ moment. I’ve been spending some time at home and talking a lot with my father and sister, who run their own coffee roasting business (it’s literally the best coffee go check them out), about their marketing and their email system. I discovered that aside from a monthly newsletter, they do not have much else going on. I don’t blame them of course, they’re only a 2-person team with limited time and a limited budget.
Side note: I really wish more email management platforms offered some simple automation tools in their free account.
When I started blabbering on about all the things they could do with email and how they could connect with their audience and grow their coffee community you could see they were interested but equally overwhelmed: where would they find the time, the money and the expertise to work this out. I started thinking about all the businesses that can’t afford marketing staff or the time to go on big long courses. In fact, with the state of the economy at present, I believe “let’s do it ourselves” will become much more common (either with current in-house staff or with freelancers).
I decided I wanted to help.
I want to level the playing field for all the businesses and creators that don’t have large budgets or the time or energy to get into every nitty-gritty detail of (email) marketing and copywriting.
I want to help make things simpler, easy to understand and easy to implement.
I want to offer businesses and creators more control, freedom and autonomy over their audience away from platforms run by companies such as Meta.
I want to show a different side to marketing, one based less on ‘hype selling’ and discounts and geared more towards human connection in a global digital world—to allow you to serve the people that really care.
I want to offer a space for people to learn, challenge ideas, find their community and cut through the mass of information that exists out there.
My current plan is to begin with this newsletter and then expand into short video content. I want to share insights into (email) marketing, creative copywriting and human connection (with a focus on trust). I want to create easily digestible content with tips, tools, guides and reviews geared toward practical implementation while at the same time offering a space to think about connection on a deeper level.
So, alongside my client work (which I will also be fine-tuning in the coming weeks), my plan is to create and share and learn alongside you as I believe we all deserve a shot to find and serve our tribe in a way that fosters joy, excitement and creativity.
The first ‘test’ of my new series of Connectable will hopefully come out sometime in August and I would love to hear your thoughts when it does.
For now, I hope you have a wonderful day full of connection.
